Eco-Challenge Pushes Nashville Jewish Community to Live Greener

Nashville, Tenn. – How do you get people to think and act in ways that reduce their environmental impact?  The Nashville Jewish Community is offering a challenge – the Nashville Eco-Challenge – with a kick off event on Sunday, August 1st from 1-4 p.m. at the Gordon Jewish Community Center.

 

Taking the Eco-Challenge involves making positives changes in your home and community.  Participants pledge to complete a personal checklist of six simple and effective ways to reduce their ecological footprint and conserve resources, such as signing up for an NES In-Home Energy Evaluation and always using reusable shopping bags at stores.

 

The kick off event will also include kid’s activities, a farmers market, hazardous household waste collection, informational booths, and a screening of the award-winning film Kilowatt Ours.    

 

“It is my hope that the Nashville Eco-Challenge kick off event will be the beginning of a transformation for our community to reduce our ecological footprint,” said Tara Biller, founder/owner of Green Proof Your Home and the event chair.

 

People are taking it upon themselves to promote and encourage their friends, family and neighbors to go green, like the Go Green District 18 campaign and now the Nashville Eco-Challenge. 

 

“As the local utility, we can help educate and arm customers with energy conservation information and resources, but the real power comes when communities like the Nashville Jewish Community get involved and take action on their own,” said Laurie Parker, NES spokesperson.
